Tree for the Future: SDOF Brisbane Initiative Held at St George Indian Orthodox Church
Brisbane, April 12, 2026 — St George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane, witnessed a meaningful and spiritually enriching event as part of the SDOF (St Dionysius Orthodox Fellowship) Brisbane initiative titled “Tree for the Future.”
The tree-planting ceremony was held on Sunday, 12th April, following the Holy Qurbana at the church premises in Mackenzie. The initiative highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship while drawing inspiration from the biblical message in Colossians 2:7 — “Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him.”
The ceremonial planting was led by H.G. Dr. Yakoob Mar Irenaios Metropolitan of the Cochin Diocese, whose presence added spiritual depth and significance to the occasion. The event was also attended by Rev. Fr. Anish Mathew, Diocesan Vice President for SDOF in the Queensland region.
The program brought together members of the parish community, including families, youth, and children, all united in a shared commitment to nurturing both faith and the environment. The initiative symbolised growth, faith, and responsibility toward future generations.
Church members expressed their appreciation for the initiative, noting that it not only promotes ecological awareness but also reinforces spiritual values rooted in care, sustainability, and community participation.
The “Tree for the Future” event stands as a reminder of the Church’s role in encouraging meaningful actions that benefit both society and the environment, leaving a lasting legacy for years to come.
