ASCENT 2026: Friday Concludes with Creativity, Reflection and Spirit-Filled Sessions

The QLD Regional Youth Camp 2026 – “ASCENT” marked a spiritually enriching and activity-filled Friday, bringing together creativity, deep reflection, and engaging sessions for all participants.

Following lunch, the camp resumed with training sessions, where participants were divided into junior and senior groups. Stefan Chemmachan led the juniors, while Rev. Fr. Shawn P Thomas (Shawn Achan) guided the seniors, continuing to provide meaningful and age-appropriate spiritual insights.

The afternoon then transitioned into creative preparation activities, with participants grouped for a campus presentation. Each group worked on themed expressions—some preparing skits, while others created paintings. In total, five skits and five paintings were developed, reflecting the creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm of the campers. These presentations are scheduled to be showcased the following day.

A major highlight of the afternoon was the intense and engaging Q&A session, where participants submitted anonymous questions. The discussion covered a wide range of topics including faith, Orthodoxy, relationships, and priesthood. The session was effectively led by Shonachin and Shemashin, who addressed the questions with clarity and depth.

In the evening, the spiritual atmosphere deepened with the arrival of His Grace, as all participants gathered for Sandhya Namaskaram and Sheema Namaskaram at 6:00 PM. Thirumeni delivered an inspiring message centred on confession and the challenges faced by young Christians, encouraging the youth to remain steadfast in their faith.

The day concluded with a vibrant campfire and Gregorian worship session following dinner. During the worship, simultaneous confessions were conducted by the clergy, offering participants a meaningful opportunity for personal spiritual renewal.

Earlier in the day, the camp had begun with a serene morning prayer by the lakeside, setting a peaceful and reflective tone. After breakfast, participants were divided into junior and senior groups for parallel sessions, with Stefan Chemmachan leading the juniors and Rev. Fr. Shawn P Thomas guiding the seniors. These sessions allowed for focused discussions tailored to each group.

Adding to the excitement, campers also took part in instructor-led outdoor activities, including canoeing and the flying fox, fostering teamwork, confidence, and joy amidst the natural surroundings.

Friday at ASCENT 2026 truly reflected the camp’s theme—“The Journey: Rooted in Faith”—as participants experienced a balanced day of learning, creativity, fellowship, and spiritual growth.
