Brisbane Pally Perunnal 2025 Begins with Kodiyettu at St. George Orthodox Church

Brisbane, 4 May 2025 — The St. George Indian Orthodox Church in Mackenzie, Brisbane, was filled with devotion and celebration today as the Brisbane Pally Perunnal officially commenced with the traditional Kodiyettu (Flag Hoisting Ceremony). This sacred event marks the beginning of the annual Feast of St. George, a highly anticipated and spiritually significant celebration for the community.

The day began with Morning Prayer at 8:00 AM, followed by the Holy Qurbana at 9:00 AM, led by Fr. Liju Samuel as the Chief Celebrant. At 10:45 AM, the Kodiyettu ceremony took place, as the ceremonial flag was raised in front of the church, symbolising the victory of good over evil and the unwavering faith of the congregation.

The flag, bearing the emblem of St. George, now flies high above the church grounds at 479 Mt. Petrie Road, Mackenzie, signalling the formal start of the Perunnal festivities. The event drew a large turnout of faithful parishioners and guests, all united in reverence and joy as they honoured the legacy and protection of St. George.

The Kodiyettu serves not just as a ritual, but as a powerful declaration of faith and community spirit. With hymns, incense, and heartfelt prayers, the atmosphere was one of deep spiritual reflection blended with festive anticipation.
