Onam Celebration 2013 at St. George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane

The St. George Indian Orthodox Church in Brisbane celebrated Onam in 2013 with great enthusiasm, bringing together the Malayali community for a day filled with traditional festivities and spiritual unity. The celebration began with a special prayer service, followed by vibrant cultural performances, including Thiruvathira dances and songs. The church was adorned with colorful pookalams (flower arrangements), adding to the festive atmosphere. Members of the community, dressed in traditional Kerala attire, participated in the event, showcasing their rich cultural heritage.
The highlight of the day was the grand Onam sadya, a traditional feast served on banana leaves, featuring an array of Kerala delicacies. Families and friends shared the meal, symbolizing unity and togetherness. The event was a wonderful reminder of the importance of cultural celebrations in fostering community bonds, even when far from home. The organizing committee thanked the volunteers and participants who made the celebration a memorable one for everyone.
