St George Indian Orthodox Church Brisbane Commemorates Catholicate Day and the 60th Memorial of Pampady Thirumeni

Brisbane, 6 April 2025 — The St George Indian Orthodox Church in Brisbane marked Catholicate Day with a solemn and spiritually uplifting ceremony on 6th April 2025, which also commemorated the 60th year of the heavenly abode of H. G. Kuriakose Mar Gregorios Metropolitan, lovingly remembered as Pampady Thirumeni.

Catholicate Day is a significant observance in the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church calendar, celebrating the establishment of the Catholicate in India. It honours the Church's self-governing status under the Catholicos of the East, rooted in apostolic succession and spiritual heritage.

This year, the celebration was particularly meaningful as the faithful gathered to remember the legacy of Pampady Thirumeni — a saintly father figure renowned for his humility, deep spirituality, and unwavering service to the Church and society. His life continues to inspire generations of faithful not only in India but among diaspora communities across the world, including Australia.

During the service, prayers were offered, and tributes were paid to Thirumeni's remarkable contributions to the Orthodox faith, especially his commitment to compassion, education, and pastoral care.
