³Pharisees came to him, testing him and saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?”

⁴He answered, “Haven’t you read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female,

⁵and said, ‘For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh’?

⁶So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart.”

⁷They asked him, “Why then did Moses command us to give her a certificate of divorce and divorce her?”

⁸He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been so.

⁹I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery.”

¹⁰His disciples said to him, “If this is the case of the man with his wife, it is not expedient to marry.”

¹¹But he said to them, “Not all men can receive this saying, but those to whom it is given.

¹²For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven’s sake. He who is able to receive it, let him receive it.”

³പരീശന്മാർ അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു: ഏതു കാരണം ചൊല്ലിയും ഭാര്യയെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നതു വിഹിതമോ എന്നു അവനെ പരീക്ഷിച്ചുചോദിച്ചു.

⁶അതുകൊണ്ടു അവർ മേലാൽ രണ്ടല്ല, ഒരു ദേഹമത്രേ; ആകയാൽ ദൈവം യോജിപ്പിച്ചതിനെ മനുഷ്യൻ വേർപിരിക്കരുതു” എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁷അവർ അവനോടു: എന്നാൽ ഉപേക്ഷണപത്രം കൊടുത്തിട്ടു അവളെ ഉപേക്ഷിപ്പാൻ മോശെ കല്പിച്ചതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

⁸അവൻ അവരോടു: “നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയകാഠിന്യം നിമിത്തമത്രെ ഭാര്യമാരെ ഉപേക്ഷിപ്പാൻ മോശെ അനുവദിച്ചതു; ആദിയിൽ അങ്ങനെയല്ലായിരുന്നു.

⁹ഞാനോ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നതു: പരസംഗം നിമിത്തമല്ലാതെ ഭാര്യയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു മറ്റൊരുത്തിയെ വിവാഹം കഴിക്കുന്നവൻ വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഉപേക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടവളെ വിവാഹം കഴിക്കുന്നവനും വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യുന്നു.”

¹⁰ശിഷ്യന്മാർ അവനോടു: സ്ത്രീയെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു മനുഷ്യന്റെ അവസ്ഥ ഇങ്ങനെ എങ്കിൽ വിവാഹം കഴിക്കുന്നതു നന്നല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹²അമ്മയുടെ ഗർഭത്തിൽനിന്നു ഷണ്ഡന്മാരായി ജനിച്ചവർ ഉണ്ടു; മനുഷ്യർ ഷണ്ഡന്മാരാക്കിയ ഷണ്ഡന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു; സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യംനിമിത്തം തങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ ഷണ്ഡന്മാരാക്കിയ ഷണ്ഡന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു; ഗ്രഹിപ്പാൻ കഴിയുന്നവൻ ഗ്രഹിക്കട്ടെ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁵God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name shall be Sarah.

¹⁶I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her.”

¹⁷Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, “Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?”

¹⁸Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

¹⁹God said, “No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

²⁰As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

²¹But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”

²²When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

¹⁵ദൈവം പിന്നെയും അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു: നിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറായിയെ സാറായി എന്നല്ല വിളിക്കേണ്ടതു; അവളുടെ പേർ സാറാ എന്നു ഇരിക്കേണം.

¹³You shall set the Levites before Aaron and before his sons, and offer them as a wave offering to Yahweh.

¹⁴Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine.

¹⁵“After that, the Levites shall go in to do the service of the Tent of Meeting. You shall cleanse them, and offer them as a wave offering.

¹⁶For they are wholly given to me from among the children of Israel; instead of all who open the womb, even the firstborn of all the children of Israel, I have taken them to me.

¹⁷For all the firstborn among the children of Israel are mine, both man and animal. On the day that I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified them for myself.

¹⁸I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel.

¹⁹I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the Tent of Meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel, so that there will be no plague among the children of Israel when the children of Israel come near to the sanctuary.”

²⁰Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel did so to the Levites. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them.

¹³നീ ലേവ്യരെ അഹരോന്റെയും പുത്രന്മാരുടെയും മുമ്പാകെ നിർത്തി യഹോവേക്കു നീരാജനയാഗമായി അർപ്പിക്കേണം.

⁹So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh’s temple.

¹⁰She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Yahweh, weeping bitterly.

¹¹She vowed a vow, and said, “Yahweh of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

¹²As she continued praying before Yahweh, Eli saw her mouth.

¹³Now Hannah spoke in her heart. Only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.

¹⁴Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Get rid of your wine!”

¹⁵Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have not been drinking wine or strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Yahweh.

¹⁶Don’t consider your servant a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”

¹⁷Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”

⁸“But you, Israel, my servant,

⁹you whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth,

¹⁰Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you.

¹¹Behold, all those who are incensed against you will be disappointed and confounded.

¹²You will seek them, and won’t find them,

¹³For I, Yahweh your God, will hold your right hand,

¹⁴Don’t be afraid, you worm Jacob,

¹⁵Behold, I have made you into a new sharp threshing instrument with teeth.

¹³നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ എന്ന ഞാൻ നിന്റെ വലങ്കൈ പിടിച്ചു നിന്നോടു: ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ, ഞാൻ നിന്നെ സഹായിക്കും എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

¹Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

²Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

³seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue,

⁴by which he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust.

⁵Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge;

⁶and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control, perseverance; and in perseverance, godliness;

⁷and in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love.

⁸For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to not be idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁹For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

¹⁰Therefore, brothers, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.

¹¹For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

¹²Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them and are established in the present truth.

¹³I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,

¹⁴knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

¹⁵Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure.

⁴അവയാൽ അവൻ നമുക്കു വിലയേറിയതും അതിമഹത്തുമായ വാഗ്ദത്തങ്ങളും നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇവയാൽ നിങ്ങൾ ലോകത്തിൽ മോഹത്താലുള്ള നാശം വിട്ടൊഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു ദിവ്യസ്വഭാവത്തിന്നു കൂട്ടാളികളായിത്തീരുവാൻ ഇടവരുന്നു.

²²Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

²³For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body.

²⁴But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything.

²⁵Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for her,

²⁶that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,

²⁷that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without defect.

²⁸Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.

²⁹For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly,

³⁰because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones.

³¹“For this cause a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife. Then the two will become one flesh.”

³²This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and the assembly.

³³Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

¹Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

²“Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with a promise:

³“that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.”

⁴You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

²¹ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ഭയത്തിൽ അന്യോന്യം കീഴ്പെട്ടിരിപ്പിൻ .

⁵There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the priestly division of Abijah. He had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

⁶They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.

⁷But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.

⁸Now while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his division

⁹according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

¹⁰The whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense.

¹¹An angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

¹²Zacharias was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him.

¹³But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard. Your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.

¹⁴You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

¹⁵For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.

¹⁶He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.

¹⁷He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.”

¹⁸Zacharias said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”

¹⁹The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God. I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

²⁰Behold, you will be silent and not able to speak until the day that these things will happen, because you didn’t believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

²¹The people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marveled that he delayed in the temple.

²²When he came out, he could not speak to them. They perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple. He continued making signs to them, and remained mute.

²³When the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed to his house.

²⁴After these days Elizabeth his wife conceived, and she hid herself five months, saying,

²⁵“Thus has the Lord done to me in the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach among men.”

¹¹അപ്പോൾ കർത്താവിന്റെ ദൂതൻ ധൂപപീഠത്തിന്റെ വലത്തു ഭാഗത്തു നിൽക്കുന്നവനായിട്ടു അവന്നു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി.

¹²സെഖര്യാവു അവനെ കണ്ടു ഭ്രമിച്ചു ഭയപരവശനായി.

¹³ദൂതൻ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: സെഖര്യാവേ, ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; നിന്റെ പ്രാർത്ഥനെക്കു ഉത്തരമായി: നിന്റെ ഭാര്യ എലീശബെത്ത് നിനക്കു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിക്കും; അവന്നു യോഹന്നാൻ എന്നു പേർ ഇടേണം.

¹⁴നിനക്കു സന്തോഷവും ഉല്ലാസവും ഉണ്ടാകും; അവന്റെ ജനനത്തിങ്കൽ പലരും സന്തോഷിക്കും.

¹⁵അവൻ കർത്താവിന്റെ സന്നിധിയിൽ വലിയവൻ ആകും; വീഞ്ഞും മദ്യവും കുടിക്കയില്ല; അമ്മയുടെ ഗർഭത്തിൽവെച്ചു തന്നേ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടു നിറയും.

¹⁶അവൻ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളിൽ പലരെയും അവരുടെ ദൈവമായ കർത്താവിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിച്ചുവരുത്തും.

¹⁷അവൻ അപ്പന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ മക്കളിലേക്കും വഴങ്ങാത്തവരെ നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ ബോധത്തിലേക്കും തിരിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു ഒരുക്കമുള്ളോരു ജനത്തെ കർത്താവിന്നുവേണ്ടി ഒരുക്കുവാൻ അവന്നു മുമ്പായി ഏലീയാവിന്റെ ആത്മാവോടും ശക്തിയോടും കൂടെ നടക്കും.

¹⁸സെഖര്യാവു ദൂതനോടു; ഇതു ഞാൻ എന്തൊന്നിനാൽ അറിയും? ഞാൻ വൃദ്ധനും എന്റെ ഭാര്യ വയസ്സുചെന്നവളുമല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁹ദൂതൻ അവനോടു: ഞാൻ ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ നിലക്കുന്ന ഗബ്രിയേൽ ആകുന്നു; നിന്നോടു സംസാരിപ്പാനും ഈ സദ്വർത്തമാനം നിന്നോടു അറിയിപ്പാനും എന്നെ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

²⁰തക്കസമയത്തു നിവൃത്തിവരുവാനുള്ള എന്റെ ഈ വാക്കു വിശ്വസിക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു അതു സംഭവിക്കുംവരെ നീ സംസാരിപ്പാൻ കഴിയാതെ മൌനമായിരിക്കും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

²¹ജനം സെഖര്യാവിന്നായി കാത്തിരുന്നു, അവൻ മന്ദിരത്തിൽ താമസിച്ചതിനാൽ ആശ്ചര്യപെട്ടു.

²³അവന്റെ ശുശ്രൂഷാകാലം തികഞ്ഞശേഷം അവൻ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി.

²⁴ആ നാളുകൾ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ എലീശബെത്ത് ഗർഭം ധരിച്ചു:

²⁵മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽ എനിക്കുണ്ടായിരുന്ന നിന്ദ നീക്കുവാൻ കർത്താവു എന്നെ കടാക്ഷിച്ച നാളിൽ ഇങ്ങനെ എനിക്കു ചെയ്തുതന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അഞ്ചു മാസം ഒളിച്ചു പാർത്തു.
