⁹He also spoke this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others:

¹⁰“Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.

¹¹The Pharisee stood and prayed by himself like this: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of men: extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

¹²I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’

¹³But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

¹⁴I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

¹⁵They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

¹⁶Jesus summoned them, saying, “Allow the little children to come to me, and don’t hinder them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.

¹⁷Most certainly, I tell you, whoever doesn’t receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”

⁹തങ്ങൾ നീതിമാന്മാർ എന്നു ഉറെച്ചു മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ധിക്കരിക്കുന്ന ചിലരെക്കുറിച്ചു അവൻ ഒരു ഉപമ പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ:

¹³ചുങ്കക്കാരനോ ദൂരത്തു നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തേക്കു നോക്കുവാമ്പോലും തുനിയാതെ മാറത്തടിച്ചു: ദൈവമേ, പാപിയായ എന്നോടു കരുണയുണ്ടാകേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁴അവൻ നീതീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടവനായി വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി; മറ്റവൻ അങ്ങനെയല്ല. തന്നെത്താൻ ഉയർത്തുന്നവൻ എല്ലാം താഴ്ത്തപ്പെടും; തന്നെത്താൻ താഴ്ത്തുന്നവൻ എല്ലാം ഉയർത്തപ്പെടും എന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

¹He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray and not give up,

²saying, “There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God and didn’t respect man.

³A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’

⁴He wouldn’t for a while; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man,

⁵yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’ ”

⁶The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.

⁷Won’t God avenge his chosen ones who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?

⁸I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

¹മടുത്തുപോകാതെ എപ്പോഴും പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കേണം എന്നുള്ളതിന്നു അവൻ അവരോടു ഒരുപമ പറഞ്ഞതു:

²ദൈവത്തെ ഭയവും മനുഷ്യനെ ശങ്കയുമില്ലാത്ത ഒരു ന്യായാധിപൻ ഒരു പട്ടണത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

³Yahweh said, “My Spirit will not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; so his days will be one hundred twenty years.”

⁴The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when God’s sons came in to men’s daughters and had children with them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

⁵Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of man’s heart was continually only evil.

⁶Yahweh was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.

⁷Yahweh said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground—man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky—for I am sorry that I have made them.”

⁸But Noah found favor in Yahweh’s eyes.

⁹This is the history of the generations of Noah: Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.

¹⁰Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

¹¹The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

¹²God saw the earth, and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

³അപ്പോൾ യഹോവ: മനുഷ്യനിൽ എൻറെ ആത്മാവു സദാകാലവും വാദിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കയില്ല; അവൻജഡം തന്നേയല്ലോ; എങ്കിലും അവൻറെ കാലം നൂറ്റിരുപതു സംവത്സരമാകും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

⁴അക്കാലത്തു ഭൂമിയിൽ മല്ലന്മാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അതിൻറെ ശേഷവും ദൈവത്തിൻറെ പുത്രന്മാർ മനുഷ്യരുടെ പുത്രിമാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നിട്ടു അവർ മക്കളെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ഇവരാകുന്നു പുരാതനകാലത്തെ വീരന്മാർ, കീർത്തിപ്പെട്ട പുരുഷന്മാർ തന്നേ.

⁵ഭൂമിയിൽ മനുഷ്യൻറെ ദുഷ്ടത വലിയതെന്നും അവൻറെ ഹൃദയവിചാരങ്ങളുടെ നിരൂപണമൊക്കെയും എല്ലായ്പോഴും ദോഷമുള്ളതത്രേ എന്നും യഹോവ കണ്ടു.

⁶താൻഭൂമിയിൽ മനുഷ്യനെ ഉണ്ടാക്കുകകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ അനുതപിച്ചു; അതു അവൻറെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നു ദുഃഖമായി:

⁷ഞാൻസൃഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള മനുഷ്യനെ ഭൂമിയിൽ നിന്നു നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളയും; മനുഷ്യനെയും മൃഗത്തെയും ഇഴജാതിയെയും ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷികളെയും തന്നേ; അവയെ ഉണ്ടാക്കുകകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻഅനുതപിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

⁸എന്നാൽ നോഹെക്കു യഹോവയുടെ കൃപ ലഭിച്ചു.

⁹നോഹയുടെ വംശപാരമ്പര്യം എന്തെന്നാൽ: നോഹ നീതിമാനും തൻറെ തലമുറയിൽ നിഷ്കളങ്കനുമായിരുന്നു; നോഹ ദൈവത്തോടുകൂടെ നടന്നു.

¹⁰ശേം, ഹാം, യാഫെത്ത് എന്ന മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെ നോഹ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു.

¹¹എന്നാൽ ഭൂമി ദൈവത്തിൻറെ മുമ്പാകെ വഷളായി; ഭൂമി അതിക്രമംകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

¹²ദൈവം ഭൂമിയെ നോക്കി, അതു വഷളായി എന്നു കണ്ടു; സകലജഡവും ഭൂമിയിൽ തൻറെ വഴി വഷളാക്കിയിരുന്നു.

¹A good name is better than fine perfume; and the day of death better than the day of one’s birth.

²It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting; for that is the end of all men, and the living should take this to heart.

³Sorrow is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the face the heart is made good.

⁴The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.

⁵It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise than for a man to hear the song of fools.

⁶For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool. This also is vanity.

⁷Surely extortion makes the wise man foolish; and a bribe destroys the understanding.

¹നല്ല പേർ സുഗന്ധതൈലത്തെക്കാളും മരണദിവസം ജനനദിവസത്തെക്കാളും ഉത്തമം.

²വിരുന്നുവീട്ടിൽ പോകുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ വിലാപഭവനത്തിൽ പോകുന്നതു നല്ലതു; അതല്ലോ സകലമനുഷ്യരുടെയും അവസാനം; ജീവച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവൻ അതു ഹൃദയത്തിൽ കരുതിക്കൊള്ളും.

³ചിരിയെക്കാൾ വ്യസനം നല്ലതു മുഖം വാടിയിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഹൃദയം സുഖമായിരിക്കും.

⁴ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ ഹൃദയം വിലാപഭവനത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയമോ സന്തോഷഭവനത്തിലത്രേ.

⁵മൂഢന്റെ ഗീതം കേൾക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ശാസന കേൾക്കുന്നതു മനുഷ്യന്നു നല്ലതു.

⁶മൂഢന്റെ ചിരി കലത്തിന്റെ കീഴെ കത്തുന്ന മുള്ളിന്റെ പൊടുപൊടുപ്പുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അതും മായ അത്രേ.

¹Help, Yahweh; for the godly man ceases.

²Everyone lies to his neighbor.

³May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips,

⁴who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail.

⁵“Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy,

⁶Yahweh’s words are flawless words,

⁷You will keep them, Yahweh.

¹യഹോവേ, രക്ഷിക്കേണമേ; ഭക്തന്മാർ ഇല്ലാതെപോകുന്നു; വിശ്വസ്തന്മാർ മനുഷ്യപുത്രന്മാരിൽ കുറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു;

²ഓരോരുത്തൻ താന്താന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരനോടു വ്യാജം സംസാരിക്കുന്നു; കപടമുള്ള അധരത്തോടും ഇരുമനസ്സോടും കൂടെ അവർ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു.

³കപടമുള്ള അധരങ്ങളെ ഒക്കെയും വമ്പു പറയുന്ന നാവിനെയും യഹോവ ഛേദിച്ചുകളയും.

⁴ഞങ്ങളുടെ നാവുകൊണ്ടു ഞങ്ങൾ ജയിക്കും; ഞങ്ങളുടെ അധരങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു തുണ; ഞങ്ങൾക്കു യജമാനൻ ആർ എന്നു അവർ പറയുന്നു.

⁵എളിയവരുടെ പീഡയും ദരിദ്രന്മാരുടെ ദീർഘശ്വാസവുംനിമിത്തം ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ എഴുന്നേല്ക്കും; രക്ഷെക്കായി കാംക്ഷിക്കുന്നവനെ ഞാൻ അതിലാക്കും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

⁸But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

⁹The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

¹⁰But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat; and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

¹¹Therefore, since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,

¹²looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?

¹³But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

¹⁴Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.

⁸എന്നാൽ പ്രിയമുള്ളവരേ, കർത്താവിന്നു ഒരു ദിവസം ആയിരം സംവത്സരംപോലെയും ആയിരം സംവത്സരം ഒരു ദിവസംപോലെയും ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നീ കാര്യം നിങ്ങൾ മറക്കരുതു.

¹²നിങ്ങൾ എത്ര വിശുദ്ധജീവനവും ഭക്തിയും ഉള്ളവർ ആയിരിക്കേണം.

¹³എന്നാൽ നാം അവന്റെ വാഗ്ദത്തപ്രകാരം നീതി വസിക്കുന്ന പുതിയ ആകാശത്തിന്നും പുതിയ ഭൂമിക്കുമായിട്ടു കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

¹But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.

²For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.

³For when they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman. Then they will in no way escape.

⁴But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.

⁵You are all children of light and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,

⁶so then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober.

⁷For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.

⁸But since we belong to the day, let’s be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

⁹For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁰who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

¹¹Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.

¹സഹോദരന്മാരേ, കാലങ്ങളെയും സമയങ്ങളെയും കുറിച്ചു നിങ്ങളെ എഴുതിയറിയിപ്പാൻ ആവശ്യമില്ല.

²കള്ളൻ രാത്രിയിൽ വരുമ്പോലെ കർത്താവിന്റെ നാൾ വരുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ തന്നേ നന്നായി അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ.

³അവർ സമാധാനമെന്നും നിർഭയമെന്നും പറയുമ്പോൾ ഗർഭിണിക്കു പ്രസവ വേദന വരുമ്പോലെ അവർക്കും പെട്ടെന്നു നാശം വന്നു ഭവിക്കും; അവർക്കും തെറ്റിയൊഴിയാവതുമല്ല.

⁴എന്നാൽ സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ആനാൾ കള്ളൻ എന്നപോലെ നിങ്ങളെ പിടിപ്പാൻ നിങ്ങൾ ഇരുട്ടിലുള്ളവരല്ല;

⁵നിങ്ങൾ എല്ലാവരും വെളിച്ചത്തിന്റെ മക്കളും പകലിന്റെ മക്കളും ആകുന്നു; നാം രാത്രിക്കും ഇരുളിന്നുമുള്ളവരല്ല.

⁶ആകയാൽ നാം ശേഷമുള്ളവരെപ്പോലെ ഉറങ്ങാതെ ഉണർന്നും സുബോധമായുമിരിക്ക.

⁷ഉറങ്ങുന്നവർ രാത്രിയിൽ ഉറങ്ങുന്നു. മദ്യപിക്കുന്നവർ രാത്രിയിൽ മദ്യപിക്കുന്നു.

⁸നാമോ പകലിന്നുള്ളവരാകയാൽ വിശ്വാസവും സ്നേഹവും എന്ന കവചവും ശിരസ്ത്രമായി രക്ഷയുടെ പ്രത്യാശയും ധരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു സുബോധമായിരിക്ക.

⁹ദൈവം നമ്മെ കോപത്തിന്നല്ല,

¹⁰നാം ഉണർന്നിരുന്നാലും ഉറങ്ങിയാലും തന്നോടുകൂടെ ജീവിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നമുക്കു വേണ്ടി മരിച്ച നമ്മുടെ കർത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുമൂലം രക്ഷയെ പ്രാപിപ്പാനത്രേ നിയമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു.

¹¹ആകയാൽ നിങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തുവരുന്നതുപോലെ അന്യോന്യം പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചും തമ്മിൽ ആത്മിക വർദ്ധനവരുത്തിയും പോരുവിൻ .

⁹“I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.

¹⁰For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

¹¹“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he won’t give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?

¹²Or if he asks for an egg, he won’t give him a scorpion, will he?

¹³If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

¹⁴He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the multitudes marveled.

¹⁵But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.”

¹⁶Others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven.

¹⁷But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. A house divided against itself falls.

¹⁸If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.
