³⁴Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.

³⁵A bondservant doesn’t live in the house forever. A son remains forever.

³⁶If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

³⁷I know that you are Abraham’s offspring, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.

³⁸I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father.”

³⁹They answered him, “Our father is Abraham.”

⁴⁰But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham didn’t do this.

⁴¹You do the works of your father.”

⁴²Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.

⁴³Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word.

⁴⁴You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

⁴⁵But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me.

⁴⁶Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?

⁴⁷He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don’t hear, because you are not of God.”

⁴⁸Then the Jews answered him, “Don’t we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?”

⁴⁹Jesus answered, “I don’t have a demon, but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.

⁵⁰But I don’t seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.

⁵¹Most certainly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death.”

⁵²Then the Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’

⁵³Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?”

⁵⁴Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.

⁵⁵You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, ‘I don’t know him,’ I would be like you, a liar. But I know him and keep his word.

⁵⁶Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.”

⁵⁷The Jews therefore said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old! Have you seen Abraham?”

⁵⁸Jesus said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, before Abraham came into existence, I AM. ”

⁵⁹Therefore they took up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, having gone through the middle of them, and so passed by.

³⁷നിങ്ങൾ അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ സന്തതി എന്നു ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നു; എങ്കിലും എന്റെ വചനത്തിന്നു നിങ്ങളിൽ ഇടം ഇല്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങൾ എന്നെ കൊല്ലുവാൻ നോക്കുന്നു.

³⁸പിതാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളതു ഞാൻ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവിനോടു കേട്ടിട്ടുള്ളതു നിങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁴⁴നിങ്ങൾ പിശാചെന്ന പിതാവിന്റെ മക്കൾ; നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവിന്റെ മോഹങ്ങളെ ചെയ്‍വാനും ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നു. അവൻ ആദിമുതൽ കുലപാതകൻ ആയിരുന്നു; അവനിൽ സത്യം ഇല്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു സത്യത്തിൽ നിലക്കുന്നതുമില്ല. അവൻ ഭോഷകു പറയുമ്പോൾ സ്വന്തത്തിൽ നിന്നു എടുത്തു പറയുന്നു; അവൻ ഭോഷ്ക പറയുന്നവനും അതിന്റെ അപ്പനും ആകുന്നു.

⁴⁵ഞാനോ സത്യം പറയുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങൾ എന്നെ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നില്ല.

⁴⁶നിങ്ങളിൽ ആർ എന്നെ പാപത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ബോധം വരുത്തുന്നു? ഞാൻ സത്യം പറയുന്നു എങ്കിൽ നിങ്ങൾ എന്നെ വിശ്വസിക്കാത്തതു എന്തു? ദൈവസന്തതിയായവൻ ദൈവവചനം കേൾക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങൾ ദൈവസന്തതിയല്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു കേൾക്കുന്നില്ല.

⁴⁸യെഹൂദന്മാർ അവനോടു: നീ ഒരു ശമര്യൻ ; നിനക്കു ഭൂതം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഞങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നതു ശരിയല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁴⁹അതിന്നു യേശു: എനിക്കു ഭൂതമില്ല; ഞാൻ എന്റെ പിതാവിനെ ബഹുമാനിക്ക അത്രേ ചെയ്യുന്നതു; നിങ്ങളോ എന്നെ അപമാനിക്കുന്നു.

⁵⁰ഞാൻ എന്റെ മഹത്വം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നില്ല; അന്വേഷിക്കയും വിധിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ ഒരുവൻ ഉണ്ടു.

⁵¹ആമേൻ , ആമേൻ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു: എന്റെ വചനം പ്രമാണിക്കുന്നവൻ ഒരുനാളും മരണം കാൺകയില്ല എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁵²യെഹൂദന്മാർ അവനോടു: നിനക്കു ഭൂതം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഇപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു മനസ്സിലായി; അബ്രാഹാമും പ്രവാചകന്മാരും മരിച്ചു; നീയോ എന്റെ വചനം പ്രമാണിക്കുന്നവൻ ഒരുനാളും മരണം ആസ്വദിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറയുന്നു.

⁵³ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിനെക്കാൾ നീ വലിയവനോ? അവൻ മരിച്ചു, പ്രവാചകന്മാരും മരിച്ചു; നിന്നെത്തന്നെ നീ ആർ ആക്കുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു യേശു:

⁵⁴ഞാൻ എന്നെത്തന്നെ: മഹത്വപ്പെടുത്തിയാൽ എന്റെ മഹത്വം ഏതുമില്ല; എന്നെ മഹത്വപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതു എന്റെ പിതാവു ആകുന്നു; അവനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവം എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു.

⁵⁵എങ്കിലും നിങ്ങൾ അവനെ അറിയുന്നില്ല; ഞാനോ അവനെ അറിയുന്നു; അവനെ അറിയുന്നില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞാൽ നിങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ ഭോഷകുപറയുന്നവൻ ആകും; എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ അവനെ അറിയുന്നു; അവന്റെ വചനം പ്രമാണിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

⁵⁶നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാം എന്റെ ദിവസം കാണും എന്നുള്ളതുകൊണ്ടു ഉല്ലസിച്ചു; അവൻ കണ്ടു സന്തോഷിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁵⁷യെഹൂദന്മാർ അവനോടു: നിനക്കു അമ്പതു വയസ്സു ആയിട്ടില്ല; നീ അബ്രാഹാമിനെ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

⁵⁸യേശു അവരോടു: ആമേൻ , ആമേൻ , ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു: അബ്രാഹാം ജനിച്ചതിന്നു മുമ്പേ ഞാൻ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁵⁹അപ്പോൾ അവർ അവനെ എറിവാൻ കല്ലു എടുത്തു; യേശുവോ മറഞ്ഞു ദൈവാലയം വിട്ടു പോയി.

¹He began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a pit for the wine press, built a tower, rented it out to a farmer, and went into another country.

²When it was time, he sent a servant to the farmer to get from the farmer his share of the fruit of the vineyard.

³They took him, beat him, and sent him away empty.

⁴Again, he sent another servant to them; and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.

⁵Again he sent another, and they killed him, and many others, beating some, and killing some.

⁶Therefore still having one, his beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

⁷But those farmers said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’

⁸They took him, killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

⁹What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.

¹⁰Haven’t you even read this Scripture:

¹¹This was from the Lord.

¹²They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him and went away.

¹പിന്നെ അവൻ ഉപമകളാൽ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞുതുടങ്ങിയതു: ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ ഒരു മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടം നട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി ചുറ്റും വേലികെട്ടി ചക്കും കുഴിച്ചുനാട്ടി ഗോപുരവും പണിതു കുടിയാന്മാരെ ഏല്പിച്ചിട്ടു പരദേശത്തു പോയി.

⁴പിന്നെ മറ്റൊരു ദാസനെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു; അവനെ അവർ തലയിൽ മുറിവേല്പിക്കയും അവമാനിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

⁵അവൻ മറ്റൊരുവനെ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു; അവനെ അവർ കൊന്നു; മറ്റു പലരെയും ചിലരെ അടിക്കയും ചിലരെ കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു.

⁶അവന്നു ഇനി ഒരുത്തൻ , ഒരു പ്രിയമകൻ , ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്റെ മകനെ അവർ ശങ്കിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ഒടുക്കം അവനെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു.

⁷ആ കുടിയാന്മാരോ: ഇവൻ അവകാശി ആകുന്നു; വരുവിൻ ; നാം ഇവനെ കൊല്ലുക; എന്നാൽ അവകാശം നമുക്കാകും എന്നു തമ്മിൽ പറഞ്ഞു.

⁸അവർ അവനെ പിടിച്ചു കൊന്നു തോട്ടത്തിൽ നിന്നു എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു.

⁹എന്നാൽ തോട്ടത്തിന്റെ ഉടയവൻ എന്തു ചെയ്യും? അവൻ വന്നു ആ കുടിയാന്മാരെ നിഗ്രഹിച്ചു തോട്ടം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ഏല്പിക്കും.

¹⁰“വീടു പണിയുന്നവർ തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞ കല്ലു മൂലക്കല്ലായിതീർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.”

¹¹“ഇതു കർത്താവിനാൽ സംഭവിച്ചു. നമ്മുടെ ദൃഷ്ടിയിൽ ആശ്ചർയ്യവുമായിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്ന തിരുവെഴുത്തു നിങ്ങൾ വായിച്ചിട്ടില്ലയോ?

¹²ഈ ഉപമ തങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചു ആകുന്നു പറഞ്ഞതു എന്നു ഗ്രഹിച്ചിട്ടു അവർ അവനെ പിടിപ്പാൻ അന്വേഷിച്ചു; എന്നാൽ പുരുഷാരത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു അവനെ വിട്ടുപോയി.

¹The man knew Eve his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain, and said, “I have gotten a man with Yahweh’s help.”

²Again she gave birth, to Cain’s brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

³As time passed, Cain brought an offering to Yahweh from the fruit of the ground.

⁴Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. Yahweh respected Abel and his offering,

⁵but he didn’t respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.

⁶Yahweh said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen?

⁷If you do well, won’t it be lifted up? If you don’t do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it.”

⁸Cain said to Abel, his brother, “Let’s go into the field.” While they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him.

⁹Yahweh said to Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?”

¹⁰Yahweh said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground.

¹¹Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.

¹²From now on, when you till the ground, it won’t yield its strength to you. You will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth.”

¹³Cain said to Yahweh, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.

¹⁴Behold, you have driven me out today from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. Whoever finds me will kill me.”

¹⁵Yahweh said to him, “Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.” Yahweh appointed a sign for Cain, so that anyone finding him would not strike him.

¹അനന്തരം മനുഷ്യൻ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ഹവ്വയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവൾ ഗർഭംധരിച്ചു കയീനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു: യഹോവയാൽ എനിക്കു ഒരു പുരുഷപ്രജ ലഭിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

⁴ഹാബെലും ആട്ടിൻ കൂട്ടത്തിലെ കടിഞ്ഞൂലുകളിൽനിന്നു, അവയുടെ മേദസ്സിൽനിന്നു തന്നേ, ഒരു വഴിപാടു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. യഹോവ ഹാബെലിലും അവന്റെ വഴിപാടിലും പ്രസാദിച്ചു.

⁵കയീനിലും അവന്റെ വഴിപാടിലും പ്രസാദിച്ചില്ല. കയീന്നു ഏറ്റവും കോപമുണ്ടായി, അവന്റെ മുഖം വാടി.

⁶എന്നാറെ യഹോവ കയീനോടു: നീ കോപിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? നിന്റെ മുഖം വാടുന്നതും എന്തു?

⁷നീ നന്മചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിൽ പ്രസാദമുണ്ടാകയില്ലയോ? നീ നന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലെങ്കിലോ പാപം വാതിൽക്കൽ കിടക്കുന്നു; അതിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം നിങ്കലേക്കു ആകുന്നു; നീയോ അതിനെ കീഴടക്കേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

⁸എന്നാറെ കയീൻ തന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനോടു: (നാം വയലിലേക്കു പോക എന്നു) പറഞ്ഞു. അവർ വയലിൽ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോൾ കയീൻ തന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെലിനോടു കയർത്തു അവനെ കൊന്നു.

⁹പിന്നെ യഹോവ കയീനോടു: നിന്റെ അനുജനായ ഹാബെൽ എവിടെ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു: ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നില്ല; ഞാൻ എന്റെ അനുജന്റെ കാവൽക്കാരനോ എന്നു അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു.

¹⁰അതിന്നു അവൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു. നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു? നിന്റെ അനുജന്റെ രക്തത്തിന്റെ ശബ്ദം ഭൂമിയിൽ നിന്നു എന്നോടു നിലവിളിക്കുന്നു.

¹¹ഇപ്പോൾ നിന്റെ അനുജന്റെ രക്തം നിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ നിന്നു ഏറ്റുകൊൾവാൻ വായിതുറന്ന ദേശം നീ വിട്ടു ശാപഗ്രസ്തനായി പോകേണം.

⁸So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah, for he heard that he had departed from Lachish.

⁹He heard news concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “He has come out to fight against you.” When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

¹⁰“Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, “Jerusalem won’t be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”

¹¹Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Shall you be delivered?

¹²Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?

¹³Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?’ ”

¹⁴Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to Yahweh’s house, and spread it before Yahweh.

¹⁵Hezekiah prayed to Yahweh, saying,

¹⁶“Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, who is enthroned among the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

¹⁷Turn your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and behold. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God.

¹⁸Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the countries and their land,

¹⁹and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.

²⁰Now therefore, Yahweh our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Yahweh, even you only.”

⁸രബ്-ശാക്കേ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു അശ്ശൂർരാജാവു ലിബ്നയുടെ നേരെ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുന്നതു കണ്ടു; അവൻ ലാക്കീശ് വിട്ടുപോയി എന്നു അവൻ കേട്ടിരുന്നു.

⁹എന്നാൽ കൂശ്രാജാവയ തിർഹാക്ക തന്റെ നേരെ യുദ്ധംചെയ്‍വാൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കേട്ടിട്ടു അവൻ ഹിസ്കീയാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു കല്പിച്ചതെന്തെന്നാൽ:

¹⁰നിങ്ങൾ യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ ഹിസ്കീയാവോടു പറയേണ്ടതു: യെരൂശലേം അശ്ശൂർരാജാവിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചുകളകയില്ല എന്നു നീ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ ദൈവം നിന്നെ ചതിക്കരുതു.

¹¹അശ്ശൂർരാജാക്കന്മാർ സകലദേശങ്ങളോടും ചെയ്തതും അവേക്കു ഉന്മൂലനാശം വരുത്തിയതും നീ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ; നീ വിടുവിക്കപ്പെടുമോ?

¹²ഗോസാൻ , ഹാരാൻ , രേസെഫ, തെലസ്സാരിലെ ഏദേന്യർ എന്നിങ്ങനെ എന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞ ജാതികളുടെ ദേവന്മാർ അവരെ വിടുവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ?

¹³ഹമാത്ത് രാജാവും അർപ്പാദ്‍രാജാവും സെഫർവ്വയീംപട്ടണം, ഹേന, ഇവ്വ എന്നിവേക്കു രാജാവായിരുന്നവനും എവിടെ?

¹⁴ഹിസ്കീയാവു ദൂതന്മാരുടെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു എഴുത്തുവാങ്ങി വായിച്ചു; ഹിസ്കീയാവു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിൽ ചെന്നു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ അതു വിടർത്തു.

¹⁵ഹിസ്കീയാവു യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാൽ:

¹⁶യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായി കെരൂബുകളുടെ മീതെ അധിവസിക്കുന്നവനായ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവേ, നീ ഒരുത്തൻ മാത്രം ഭൂമിയിലെ സർവ്വരാജ്യങ്ങൾക്കും ദൈവമാകുന്നു; നീ ആകാശത്തെയും ഭൂമിയെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കി.

¹⁷യഹോവേ, ചെവി ചായിച്ചു കേൾക്കേണമേ; യഹോവേ, തൃക്കണ്ണു തുറന്നു നോക്കേണമേ; ജീവനുള്ള ദൈവത്തെ നിന്ദിപ്പാൻ ആളയച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന സൻ ഹേരീബിന്റെ വാക്കു ഒക്കെയും കേൾക്കേണമേ.

¹⁸യഹോവേ, അശ്ശൂർരാജാക്കന്മാർ സർവ്വജാതികളെയും അവരുടെ ദേശത്തെയും ശൂന്യമാക്കി,

¹⁹അവരുടെ ദേവന്മാരെ തീയിൽ ഇട്ടുകളഞ്ഞതു സത്യം തന്നേ; അവ ദേവന്മാരല്ല, മനുഷ്യരുടെ കൈപ്പണിയായ മരവും കല്ലും മാത്രം ആയിരുന്നുവല്ലോ; ആകയാൽ അവർ അവയെ നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

²⁰ഇപ്പോഴോ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവേ, നീ ഒരുത്തൻ മാത്രം യഹോവ എന്നു ഭൂമിയിലെ സകലരാജ്യങ്ങളും അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങളെ അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽനിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കേണമേ.

⁵¹“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do.

⁵²Which of the prophets didn’t your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.

⁵³You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!”

⁵⁴Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

⁵⁵But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

⁵⁶and said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

⁵⁷But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears, then rushed at him with one accord.

⁵⁸They threw him out of the city and stoned him. The witnesses placed their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.

⁵⁹They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”

⁶⁰He kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

¹Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.

²Devout men buried Stephen and lamented greatly over him.

⁵¹ശാഠ്യക്കാരും ഹൃദയത്തിന്നും ചെവിക്കും പരിച്ഛേദന ഇല്ലാത്തവരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെ തന്നേ നിങ്ങളും എല്ലായ്പോഴും പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനോടു മറുത്തു നിലക്കുന്നു.

⁵²പ്രവാചകന്മാരിൽ ഏവനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതിരുന്നിട്ടുള്ളു? നീതിമാനായവന്റെ വരവിനെക്കുറിച്ചു മുൻ അറിയിച്ചവരെ അവർ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

⁵³അവന്നു നിങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോൾ ദ്രോഹികളും കുലപാതകരും ആയിത്തീർന്നു; നിങ്ങൾ ദൈവദൂതന്മാരുടെ നിയോഗങ്ങളായി ന്യായപ്രമാണം പ്രാപിച്ചു എങ്കിലും അതു പ്രമാണിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.

⁵⁴ഇതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അവർ കോപപരവശരായി അവന്റെ നേരെ പല്ലുകടിച്ചു.

⁵⁵അവനോ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു നിറഞ്ഞവനായി സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കു ഉറ്റുനോക്കീ, ദൈവമഹത്വവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വലത്തുഭാഗത്തു യേശു നിലക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടു:

⁶⁰അവനോ മുട്ടുകുത്തി: കർത്താവേ, അവർക്കും ഈ പാപം നിറുത്തരുതേ എന്നു ഉച്ചത്തിൽ നിലവിളിച്ചു. ഇതു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടു അവൻ നിദ്രപ്രാപിച്ചു.

¹അവനെ കുലചെയ്തതു ശൗലിന്നു സമ്മതമായിരുന്നു. അന്നു യെരൂശലേമിലെ സഭെക്കു ഒരു വലിയ ഉപദ്രവം നേരിട്ടു; അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാർ ഒഴികെ എല്ലാവരും യെഹുദ്യ ശമര്യ ദേശങ്ങളിൽ ചിതറിപ്പോയി.

²ഭക്തിയുള്ള പുരുഷന്മാർ സ്തെഫാനൊസിനെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു. അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു വലിയൊരു പ്രലാപം കഴിച്ചു.

³⁵Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

³⁶Even as it is written,

³⁷No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

³⁸For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

³⁹nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

³⁵ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സ്നേഹത്തിൽനിന്നു നമ്മെ വേർപിരിക്കുന്നതാർ? കഷ്ടതയോ സങ്കടമോ ഉപദ്രവമോ പട്ടിണിയോ നഗ്നതയോ ആപത്തോ വാളോ?

³⁶“നിന്റെ നിമിത്തം ഞങ്ങളെ ഇടവിടാതെ കൊല്ലുന്നു; അറുപ്പാനുള്ള ആടുകളെപ്പൊലെ ഞങ്ങളെ എണ്ണുന്നു” എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

³⁷നാമോ നമ്മെ സ്നേഹിച്ചവൻ മുഖാന്തരം ഇതിൽ ഒക്കെയും പൂർണ്ണജയം പ്രാപിക്കുന്നു.

³⁸മരണത്തിന്നോ ജീവന്നോ ദൂതന്മാർക്കോ വാഴ്ചകൾക്കോ അധികാരങ്ങൾക്കോ ഇപ്പോഴുള്ളതിന്നോ വരുവാനുള്ളതിന്നോ ഉയരത്തിന്നോ ആഴത്തിന്നോ മറ്റു യാതൊരു സൃഷ്ടിക്കോ

³⁹നമ്മുടെ കർത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിലുള്ള ദൈവസ്നേഹത്തിൽ നിന്നു നമ്മെ വേറുപിരിപ്പാൻ കഴികയില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ ഉറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

³⁴Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,

³⁵that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.

³⁶Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.

³⁷“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!

³⁸Behold, your house is left to you desolate.

³⁹For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”

³⁴അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെയും ജ്ഞാനികളെയും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയക്കുന്നു; അവരിൽ ചിലരെ നിങ്ങൾ ക്രൂശിച്ചു കൊല്ലുകയും ചിലരെ നിങ്ങളുടെ പള്ളികളിൽ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അടിക്കയും പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ഔടിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

³⁵നീതിമാനായ ഹാബേലിന്റെ രക്തംമുതൽ നിങ്ങൾ മന്ദിരത്തിന്നും യാഗപീഠത്തിന്നും നടുവിൽവെച്ചു കൊന്നവനായി ബെരെഖ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ സെഖര്യാവിന്റെ രക്തംവരെ ഭൂമിയിൽ ചൊരിഞ്ഞ നീതിയുള്ള രക്തം എല്ലാം നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വരേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.

³⁶ഇതൊക്കെയും ഈ തലമുറമേൽ വരും എന്നു ഞാൻ സത്യമായിട്ടു നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

³⁷യെരൂശലേമേ, യെരൂശലേമേ, പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുകയും നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവരെ കല്ലെറികയും ചെയ്യുന്നവളേ, കോഴി തന്റെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ചിറകിൻ കീഴിൽ ചേർക്കുംപോലെ നിന്റെ മക്കളെ ചേർത്തുകൊൾവാൻ എനിക്കു എത്രവട്ടം മനസ്സായിരുന്നു; നിങ്ങൾക്കോ മനസ്സായില്ല.

³⁸നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭവനം ശൂന്യമായ്തീരും.

³⁹കർത്താവിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ വരുന്നവൻ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ പറയുവോളം നിങ്ങൾ ഇനി എന്നെ കാണുകയില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
